Network System for Research: LAN and Internet |
| All the laboratories, Gene Research
Center, Research Center for Experimental Biology and faculty office
are connected by LAN (Local Area Network) using Ethernet cables. This
sub network is connected to the campus LAN which covers all the faculties
and departments within Tokyo Institute of Technology. Of course, the
access to Internet is possible via the campus LAN. The permission
to use the network service is given to all the faculty members, staffs,
and graduate as well as undergraduate students. The use of this service
is quite versatile and includes e-mail exchange, access to various
domestic as well as foreign data bases, reading and down-loading various
international journals, and the use of domestic and foreign main frame
computer centers. The service is so useful that we could not carry
out research efficiently without it. A few years ago we opened our
home page (http://www.bio.titech.ac.jp/)
and the researches performed in each lab are being introduced. We
are in the process of improving the contents and would like to welcome
your access to out home page. |

System for Education |
| The computer system consists of a
molecular graphics system, five host computers with 44 X-terminals
and a TV video system. After the fundamental course and practice of
computer literacy, computer analyses of gene information, three-dimentional
structures of biomolecules, etc are specific subjects for students
in School of Bioscience and Biotechnology. Especially molecular graphic
system utilizing sophisticated software is the most effective for
understanding the relationship between structure and function of biomolecules. |
