The human body consists of biomolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and saccharides assembled within complex systems of cells and organs. The Department of Biomolecular Engineering is based on the molecular science of physical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry (molecular biology). The department directs its efforts towards clarifying biological phenomena, applying and regulating these processes for production and medical technology (diagnosis and therapy), mimicking biological functions for the synthesis of bioactive molecules, and investigating delivery systems (DDS), gene therapy and artificial cells and organs.
